About Dogterminal, Dogterminal free and paying services
Q: What Dogterminal is about?
A: Dogterminal is created for people who are serious about pure and quality breeding. We publish information about real dogs and kennels that are registered in appropriate cynological organization (FCI, AKC, British KC, CCK etc). We invite dog owners to publish information about their blood lines, this way you do a good turn to the cynological world and let other people know about your kennels.
Q: Do you check data in your site?
A: Yes, once we get information that some data is incorrect, we do possible investigations. For example if the question is about wrong show titles, we can request appropriate certificates from the owner. Let us not to speak here about all cases we meet but we do the best to publish true information on the site. Sometimes a user can be simply inaccurate and do a mistake, the dog world is a tiny community and we get to know about mistakes quickly. In some cases like intended incorrect data, we apply strong measures to a user. For example when we got to know that one breeder uses stolen puppy photos from one American kennel for own advertisements but didn't get any explanations from her, we blocked her account and set her 13 dog profiles in an invisible mode.
Q: Should I pay to publish information about my dogs, puppy advertisements or kennel listing?
A: Dogterminal's goal is to support reputable breeders. We publish all general information for free (Basic plan). But there are also Basic+, Gold and Platinum plans, they are paid because their options bring the most hard load on the server. Please see more detailed www.dogterminal.com/aboutservices.php
Q: How old is Dogterminal?
A: The Company Dogterminal LLC was officially registered on September, 10 2003. But before we ran our site, we spent about a year to think up in detail all options and services we can offer to breeders and how to organize a flexible system and worked hard on programming and site security.
Q: Is Dogterminal a commercial enterprise?
A: Dogterminal is registered as a commercial company to have more flexibility on the market. Though Dogterminal is run by cynological idealists with the goal to support pure and quality breeding, database like Dogterminal with all its options and features requires each month huge financial expenses to keep services and server working. This is why we have some paying services what make the biggest load on the server. But we can assure you that if Dogterminal gets into a position of profit, we will spend it for the site promotion and that means for the promotion of your dogs and kennels.
Q: Is it safe to pay for Dogterminal services with a credit card?
A: Yes, it is safe. We guarantee your e-commerce transactions to be 100% safe and secure. When you place orders or access your personal account information, you're utilizing secure server software SSL, which encrypts your personal information before it's sent over the Internet. That also means that our server doesn't collect any personal data of your credit card. SSL is one of the safest encryption technologies available. Our transaction software tested and licensed by appropriate organization and your card validation is being checked not by us but by the global bank system. If you have a rejection about payment, please contact your bank to discover the reason because we can't know about it.
Q: Can I have an e-mail box on your server?
A: Yes, once you are registered, you automatically get an e-mail box which is yourlogin@dogterminal.com We strongly recommend you not to publish your e-mal in open sources like mentioning it in forum posts, advertisements etc. This will bring automatically loads of spam to your mailbox and our server will get additional load. This can reflect at the end in site lagging.
Registration problems
Q: I can't log in, I see just empty page
A: You probably can't see pages starting from https:// The most possible reason is that the Administrator (provider) of your net blocks your access to this protocol. This normally happens when you use internet at work (for example) and administration has limited access.
Q: I didn't get a message with the activation link
A: You probably use a free public mail box. Please look into a "Junk/Spam" category and you might find the message there. Set the Dogterminal address into "the white" list as well. If you still didn't find the message, contact us through the Support System - point your login and we will activate your account manually.
Puppy section questions
Q: What is the difference between the puppy section on your site and others?
A: When we developed our system, we tried to avoid all mess that other sites with free puppy sections normally have:
- An advertisement about one litter should be placed just once.
- It should be actual
- It should provide as much as possible information about puppies
- Visitors can follow their ascendants through the database and be able quickly to find dogs from the previous litters to be sure they have better chance to grow in a good quality dogs.
- Visitor can watch ascendants show achievements and that means their quality was checked and appreciated by authorised judges.
- Visitors can check advantages and disadvantages of ascendants in the field expert's description (if these fields are filled by the owner). This section can help a visitor to decide if this puppy line suit to his/her brood lines for own breeding.
- An advertisement can be made only if one of the parents is already presented in the database, this also gives some security to buyers.
- At least one of the parents is officially registered in a recognizable cynological organization.
Q: How to make a puppy advertisement?
A: You can make a puppy advertisement through Cabinet -> My puppies -> Add new record
Please mind that an advertisement can be made only if one of the parents is already presented in the database and your service plan is Gold or Platinum. If your interest in Dogterminal is only keeping puppy advertisements, please do not do that because later we can't remove your dog out of database if you want it. There are plenty other puppy boards in the internet who will be happy to publish your ads. Our goal is to keep the database of best stud stock and constant reputable breeders.
Q: When my advertisement will appear?
A: Once you create your advertisement and press the button "Publish advertisement"
Q: Can I publish my e-mail in dog profiles or in advertisements?
A: Sure you can, we do not moderate text sections (text fields). But we do not recommend to publish your e-mail in open sources. Spam robots browser internet and especially popular sites and this way your e-mail boxes will be overfilled with spam very quickly (sometimes you can catch viruses!) Dogterminal has own mailing feature and you can be contacted through a contact form in a dog's profile or puppy advertisement. We never planned to ask any fee for this and all interested visitor can contact your any time.
Kennel section questions
Q: How can I list my kennel in the kennel section?
A: Information here is being automatically collected from primary data in dog's profiles. This way if you add even one your dog, showing its quality to public, we will be happy to add your kennel name (chose the field in dog's profile "Kennel name", step "Contact") Please mind that the more you add dogs in the database the more credits it will bring to your kennel because visitors will see your lines and your dogs characteristics.
Q: What should I write if the dog belongs to two or more co-owners from different kennels?
A: Write "Name 1 & Name 2" in the filed "Owner's last name". Write in the field "Kennel Name" only that kennel where the dog lives most of the time. If you type two kennels there, it will bring mess in the kennel list. We are planning to organize a special feature for co-owners in future but at the moment it works this way.
Dog section questions
Q: What are the requirements for the main photo?
A: There are some basic requirements:
- Rights: Rights to publish this photo belong to you (you are the author) or you have photo author's permission to post it.
- Age: A dog in the photo is older than 6 months old.
- Number: There is just one dog in the photo (even if there are dogs of different breeds there or dogs with puppies). Some parts of other dogs or some dogs far behind are allowed. The idea is that visitors cant be confused in a slightest way which dog is meant to be presented on the photo.
- Quality: Certain quality of the photo is required. It shouldn't be necessary taken by a professional photographer (though it would be very good as it precents your dog from the best side). A dog and its main characteristics should be clear seen. It can be standing, sitting positions or portrait. Running dogs are allowed if it taken from the right angle and clear seen dog's characteristics (see example http://229gbrm578527.dogterminal.com). Remember, main photo presents your dog and chose the best one!
- No clothes: Dogs shouldn't be in any clothes. These types of photos you can post as additional photos.
- Fun: Funny photos also will be declined. They suit more for the photo album section.
- Frames: Photos with frames. If possible, frames will be cut by a moderator, if not - the photo will be declined. Photos with frames can fit fine to your personal pages design but will look odd and not informative in the Dogterminal suit.
- Replaced background: Our moderators are experienced graphic designers and always see modifications made in the photo. Sometimes we do "close" eyes on photos with small editing, we understand that sometimes it is better to remove some dust, spots, hands or feet what only distract attention from the dog. But if we see that someone tried to edit silhouette of the dog, the photo will be rejected for sure. Photos with pasted unnatural backgrounds will be rejected. Remember the less modifications you do the better presentation because of "natural view" even if there is no mountains or lakes behind the dog.
- Signature: We accept and appreciate author's signatures if they look accurate. Signatures and text shouldn't attract more attention than the dog itself. Long lines like dog's or kennel names in big bright letters are not acceptable. We recommend making signatures in black or grey colours. Remember that bright colours (especially red) in jpg formats can become unattractive dirty spots. If you want to place your signature on the dog, use light grey transparent lines (example: http://222gbrm862307.dogterminal.com)
- Size: optimal size is 400-500 pixels on the longest side.
- Format: .jpg only
- Advices: our experienced moderators will crop your photo in the best way according photography rules to make better accent on the dog. Sometimes we get really masterpieces and we regret that have to crop some beautiful backgrounds. But we should remember that the main photo should make accent on the dog and background is secondary for the dog catalog. You can always place the original photo as additional one. If you crop photo by yourself, remember not to cut it too close to the dog, it should have some space for better presentation.
We also do colour balance if necessary and other corrections. Till now we were only complimented by visitors of good quality photo presentation in the catalog gallery.
Q: I see additional advertisements on dog listing pages. How can I get it also?
A: We provide additional advertisements for Gold and Platinum members. Dog profiles can be shown in this column if you filled fields "Text" and/or "Experts' descriptions"
Q: I see some dogs are shown in the big banner on the main and other pages. How can I get it?
A: This option is for Platinum members. The additions feature to this option is that if there are puppies on offer from this dog at the moment, this advertisement will be automatically marked with puppy ad.
Q: How can I delete my dog from the database? I didn't find such option
A: Dogterminal is a very complicated system and has a complicated structure when all data you put in special sectors get connections with other sectors. Every new record is getting integrated with other records on the intercross link level. Considering reciprocal inheritance of most dogs in the database, records create chains of data and removing of any part of them lead to losing data and destroying the whole integration.
Referential integrity is a database concept that ensures that relationships between records remain
consistent. When one record has a foreign key to another record, the concept of referential
integrity states that you may not add a link to the record that contains the foreign key unless
there is a corresponding link in the linked table. It also includes the techniques known as
cascading update and cascading delete, which ensure that changes made to the linked records are reflected in the primary table.
Saying in simple words we can't physically remove dogs' data from the database. In some cases it is possible to set a dog's profile in invisible mode if this dog has not many connections with other data.
Q: When will my dog be accepted in the catalog?
A: We do the best and new records are daily checked by a moderator. We normally accept records during a day. Please check that you pressed option "Send to a moderator" The record status shows on what stage of process your record is.
Q: How many dogs can I have on my account?
A: At the moment it is unlimited. We do not think it will be ever limited by quantity.
Q: How to set that all my dogs were shown in a profiles section 'Other owners dogs'?
A: On the step "General information" find the option "Are you the owner of this dog? - Yes"
Q: My dog is on somebody's account. Can you delete it and I will create a new one?
A: No, we can't delete that profile for the reasons described in "How can I delete my dog from the database?" Send us a request and we will move that profile onto your account. Please don't forget to mention your dog's name or its ID and your account.
Q: Can I put in the database dogs what belong not to me?
A: You can if you have rights to use its particular photo (you are the author or you have an author's permission). All information about dog is public and doesn't require anyone's permission. However you can't publish private owners' information without his/her permission like phone number, e-mail or street address and house number.
Q: I can't find show or working titles I need in your list
A: We are working at titles list optimization but it is obvious that we can't include all possible titles in this list because they are different not only in different countries but also different breeds can have own special titles. At the moment our list includes already 500 main titles. Please use text field "Comments" to write there what you didn't find.
Q: How often can I change the main photo?
A: In a Basic plan you can change the main photo once a year. The next possible changing is shown near the photo. The reason for that is that a moderator should visually check main photos because we had cases when people upload sometimes very odd images. We care very much of the good catalog presentation and trying to get it that way when a visitor get as much useful information as possible at once. Plans Gold and Platinum have more possible changing's.
Q: Why littermates of my dog are not showing in its profile?
A: The most common reason is because birth data differs from other littermates or incorrect spelling of parents names. Mind that the system "thinks" with absolute categories and if there is a spelling mistake, it considers parents as different dogs. Also check that symbols like "`" and letters are the same. Please contact us if it didn't help.
Link section questions
Q: Where can I add a link to my site?
A: The concept of Dogterminal is to support and promote kennels what are the basics of the cynology but for same irony small kennel sites cant compete with giants who are easy to find in the net. So once you create a dog's profile and fill the field "Site address" (step "Contact"), your kennel site is being automatically added and indexed by our searching engine.
As we link thousands of small sites and most of them are not paying members, we do not get any benefits from this service. It would be nice from site owners to add also a link to Dogterminal.
We can also exchange links with other dog sites but only if they follow some criterias - informative context about show dogs, big auditory (from 500 visitors a day) and properly done. Contact us if you consider your site to be this one. We should apologise in advance that we don't exchange links with any site.
Q: Should I set a reciprocal link on my site?
A: We do not request reciprocal links but we will highly appreciate if you do this. We do a lot of efforts and provide most services for free to support kennels and you can do also something for us. Please also count that if you place our link on your site and some other breeders do it, it will bring more visitors to Dogterminal and at the end more visitors will see your dogs and your kennel advertisements. It is a win-win situation.
